Protection of infants in obstetric wards

If an infant is taken away from the birth or pediatric ward by an unauthorized person, Raphael CoCoontrol immediately informs the station staff or, if necessary, security guards. In addition, an automatic closing of the exit door is possible in order to prevent leaving the station at all.

These security measures will not be taken if an authorized family member or authorized ward staff wants to leave the secured area with the infant. They are automatically verified by their so-called family or nurse transponder.

In addition, there is always the possibility of accurately locating the infant within the ward.

Indoor positioning of the infant

The Raphael CoCoontrol software offers the possibility to display the location of an infant and its mother on a map.

Alerts are made when:

  • a newborn is brought to the ward exit without a suitable mother transponder

  • a baby transponder was forgotten to attach it to the baby, for example, after wrapping or bathing

  • the newborn remains at the changing table without mother or nurse

Pairing of a mother and child

In order to be able to assign the mother to an infant, it is necessary that a togetherness of the mother and baby transponder is created.

Of course, this process must be as flexible and uncomplicated as possible so that it does not burden the existing work processes.

For this purpose, we have specially developed a space-saving pairing station: The midwife or nurse places the mother transponder on a small pairing station. Mother- and baby transponders are automatically recognized and an entry screen for name assignment appears.

Of course, several baby transponders may be assigned to different parent transporters, in the case of a multiple birth or multiple family members who need the permission of the mother.

Legal certainty just in case

The software offers a variety of documentation options. So you can understand in hindsight,

  • when and where a mother has triggered an emergency call

  • when a newborn has left the station

  • whether an authorized person was present and much more

An alarm history provides the station management with insight into the past processes with the corresponding time stamp. If necessary, it can be understood that an infant with the associated mother has left the clinic if it has not returned.

Baby transponder

The baby transponder is battery operated and triggers an alert if:

  • the transponder is removed from the baby

  • the transponder leaves the station without a legitimate accompanying transponder being present (mother or care transponder)

  • the transponder remains unaccompanied on the changing table (in which case it may have been forgotten to replace the transponder or the child was left alone on the changing table)

Mother transponder

The mother transponder is also battery operated. It is used to check the authorization to remove a baby from a ward. The transponder is attached to the wrist with a wristband so that it is not lost or gets into the wrong hands.

In addition, the mother transponder also offers the possibility of placing an emergency call and thus informing you about your location in an emergency situation.
